Biomedical Ultrasound & Optical Imaging Lab
Assistant Professor, Department of Bioengineering
Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India
His foundation in medical imaging was established at IIT Madras under Prof. Arun K. Thittai, where he focused on ultrasound imaging and analysis. This experience inspired him to explore the field in greater depth, leading to his PhD at ETH Zürich under Prof. Orcun Goksel, where he specialized in the development of advanced ultrasound imaging systems.
To complement his ultrasound background with optical imaging expertise, he pursued postdoctoral training at MGH and Harvard Medical School in Prof. Bouma's lab. There, he focused on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) image analysis and the development of point-of-care devices.
Throughout this journey, he has worked on instrumentation to improve the sensitivity of conventional ultrasound and OCT systems. He has also pioneered several physics-informed image processing and machine learning methods to enhance the clinical utility of these modalities. Importantly, many of these projects were designed and validated in close collaboration with clinicians to ensure translational impact. Overall, his research aims to address key challenges in maximizing the clinical utility of ultrasound and OCT imaging.
He relocated to India in 2025 to join IISc as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering. His lab focuses on developing clinically inspired ultrasound and optical imaging systems.
Research Interests: Medical Imaging (Ultrasound & OCT), Image/signal processing, image analysis, point-of-care devices.
